Planning a route problem - Basecamp is not taking the most obvious route

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere (but I couldn't find it).

I am a keen motorbike rider and plan monthly road rides. I am getting quite frustrated with basecamp (ver 4.5.2) in that I start to plot routes along a straight road say 5km between points and very often basecamp will not take the most direct path, but will plot a bizarre round about way to the next point using back roads and even U turns. I end up having to put point only a few metres apart to get the plot to follow the road I want.

I am using the latest City Navigator map

Perhaps you can give examples?

All I can suggest at the moment is to check your avoidance and routing settings in whichever profile you're using.

Thanks SUSSAMB I reset the profile and ensure the minor road avoidance was set. So far so good, I have done a few tests and it is plotting much more predictably, a couple of very minor glitches, but far better.
