I have BaseCamp installed on multiple Windows PCs (7, 7pro, and 8.1).
A big PC at home for route planning and a small PC for traveling on my motorcycle (I have Zumo 350LM).
Exporting 15 routes from Big PC and Importing those 15 routes into my Travel PC works but is a hassle.
Tresorit is a secure cloud storage system that encrypts data on your PC before transmission to cloud.
Hence, there are no vulnerabilities during transmission up or down, or, on the cloud itself.
There is a free version available (full function but limited size and number).
I have been using the free version for a year or so and it works great for all my end-user needs.
I talked with several different Garmin support techies about sharing BC data via cloud and was repeatedly assured that such a thing will NOT work.
Well, it does.
Here is how to use Tresorit with BC to share the BC "database" via secure cloud among multiple PCs::
The BC default database lives in:: C / users / DrRobert / App Data / Roaming / Garmin / BaseCamp / Database / 4.5 is current version with lots of directories and files inside each update of BC software creates a new directory (previous was 4.4) so major BC version updates require YOU to adjust your file structure accordingly
the two key files are AllData.GDB and FolderData.GFI
Use your File Manager to: COPY entire 4.5 directory >> My Tresors / Shared / Garmin / 4.5
In BC goto Edit / Options / Database / Select / Default
green plus to left of Default will add another Database to options list
name it whatever ( I used Tresor )
BROWSE to My Tresors / Shared / Garmin / 4.5 (will have to change this after each BC major sfw update)
select new Database
BC will auto restart with new database
Hereafter, all work in BC will be saved to this Tresorit on your local PC by BC itself.
Hereafter, this Tresorit directory will be synched to Tresorit secure cloud.
Make the same changes to the BC default database on any other PCs you want to share with.
In my case I am sharing with myself on multiple PCs - but - you can share with people around the world if you want as Tresorit provides the necessary functionality.
(avoid simultaneous route changes by people around the world or everybody will get very confused {as BC itself does not see updates until restarted})
Be Sure to Note that when BC is launched it grabs its database - and - any Tresorit updates thereafter will not be seen by open BC.
BC must be re-started to see updates by Tresorit to its database.
Note also, that Tresorit takes a couple minutes after a file save before it encrypts it and sends it to the cloud - and - then other shared PCs have similar delays (and, of course, must be turned on).
So as not to confuse myself, I keep BC on my Big PC running all the time.
But, keep BC closed on my Travel PC until I need it - hence - when I launch BC Travel PC it synchs to current database.
While riding around the country on my motorcycle I use only the Travel PC with BC - I can make any route changes; send to Zumo GPS device; etc, etc - AND when I get WiFi connection these changes will synch back to my Big PC at home (or you can turn Tresorit synch off while traveling if you want).
