MGRS coordinates

Hello at Garmin .. we typically use MGRS coordinates & once a wpt is created we routinely edit them to update or refresh the position when we delete the old numbers (prefix may remain the same eg 16TGS) a string of zeros is put in place by the software - then when we attempt to insert the new coordinate position it is not being displayed as entered from the keyboard. .. as a work around we find deleting one digit & quickly entering the new digit will work so we backspace over the digit to be replaced & quickly insert the new .. would like to be able to overwrite the complete old with new. any suggestions
Thanks Sault SAR

Move to a warmer climate where leading zeros may not be as much of a problem with the MGRS grid?

Basecamp doesn't seem to have an easy search method for valid MGRS coordinate values. Perhaps only conversions from degree system values is primarily supported.

We are able to reproduce this behavior that is caused by a timer. I'll create a work item to improve this.

    MGRS coordinate display

Thanks Racer_X .. Here is an earlier request I had made to product support .... Jan 26 2015
"As a search & rescue team in northern Ontario Ca. we have 20 Garmin GPS map 62 units and use Base Camp to move data & document tracks / waypoints on Topo Canada v4.. our question is would it be possible to increase the size of the MGRS coordinate display numbers that appear on the lower left of the screen & place a separation between easting & northing numbers (they currently all run together) These numbers appear strung together on the waypoint details page as well so the crux of our problem is that the numbers are small & strung together so errors are sometimes made when inputting or editing coordinate positions .. all of our search managers have commented to me on this. any help to improve this would be appreciated"
The Question # assigned by prod Support was Q#1000082 & ref # ID 3901484
Their reply " will be happy to submit your suggestion & observation to the appropriate parties" from customer care outdoor team
    Thanks SarOne

This thread finally made me go to Wikipedia to start reading up on "Mercator" and included UTM links. I had been trying to think of a word other than "truncate" to embellish my hazy thoughts on leading zeros, but truncate seems to be the operative word when entering coordinates of less than maximum precision for UTM grids - and leading zeros could be invalid in some grid squares.

With SAR in mind, I had a look at the available coordinate formats in the only Garmin device that I use - the Nuvi 56 with maps of US+Canada. The UTM formats are supported, but it looks like one would have to save two coincident waypoints using degrees in one waypoint and MGRS in the other to make a conversion in the field. Good luck in bringing this all together in your SAR missions.
