New to Basecamp - Help!

I installed the latest Basecamp and installed MyTrails from gpsfiledepot. I can see My Trails under the Maps dropdown, but I do not see it under My Collection. Should it be there, or do I have to someone move it there?

I assume that any mapset (a MapSource term) that I want to transfer to my gps has to be in My Collection, but maybe I don't understand how to use this.

    Hello Bike,

    Use Explore.
Go to C:/ Garmin / My Trails and scroll to the bottom and open the "ReadMe.txt"
Scroll to the bottom of ReadMe and check the states that are covered.
If you are in one of the covered states then go to GPSFileDepot and download and install your state.
If you already have some map like "Topo US 100K" or "City Navigator" then you might not need a state map.

Then read the rest of the ReadMe where it explains the process to convert the trails to GPX tracks so they will overlay on whatever other maps you have in BaseCamp.
Also....the trails must be GPX before you can transfer them to your gps.
  • Thanks Don, I was able to load My Trails to Basecamp from your instructions. I had seen the Readme instructions to use GPSMapEdit, but the last time I installed my Trails into MapSource a few years back, it was not needed. I guess something changed since then.

Now I am trying to load Missouri Topo. The only special instructions for it is to install MyTrails first, due to a bug in the 64 bit installer. Missouri Topo has been installed after My Trails were installed and I can see it when I select it on the Map pulldown, but again, I cannot see it in My Collection.

When I used it in MapSource, the map was divided by grids, and when a grid box was selected that portion of the map was included in the mapset. I do not see any grids or any other way to get it in My Collection.

I see a .gdb file and a LOT of .img files. I hope I do not have to use GPSMapEdit to build .kmz files from each of the .img.

    Any ideas?

    Hello Bike,

Just guessing here because I have not installed the new My Trails on my new Win7 machine.

I think all you need to do is import that GDB file into a folder in BaseCamp. Name the folder My Trails.

It should be a whole bunch of tracks that you can send to your gps.
