Basecamp not starting on Win10: "Windows imaging component missing"

Hi,

I cannot start Basecamp under Win10 anymore, fresh install of Basecamp didn't help. I keep getting the error message that Windows Imaging Component is missing. I read alot about this happening in Win7 and 8, and that you should uninstall KB2670838, but this isn't even present in Windows 10. So obviously, this issue is reoccurring, something is broken in Win10 again.

How can this be fixed?

Just for the records: I found the source of this error: I have fast picture viewer installed on my system, which obviously installs additional WIC codecs. These caused all these problems with Garmin Basecamp and Garmin Express that I described. After I uninstalled that tool, everything is working fine again.

So if you have the same error described above, look if you have fast picture viewer installed and update to a newer version (not tested if they fixed it or are aware of that problem, registration to their forum is currently unavailable), or uninstall it (as I did, since I don't need that program anymore), and Basecamp will work fine.

I do not know which side to blame, but Garmin software devs should investigate this, if they read here.
  • +1 Can confirm! This was the same for me. Uninstall FastPictureViewer.
