Basecamp with Zumo 660?

I saw some older info that said basecamp didn't always play nice with some Zumo models (I have the 660LM). Now that there have been a number of updates to basecamp, are there still problems? I'm trying to plan a trip and using basecamp seems to be much easier than mapsource but I don't want to get there to find my routes jacked up.
  • Some do still report problems with Basecamp, others say it works okay for them, you should be able to try yourself and see. The official FAQ still indicates Basecamp has issues.

Well therein lies the rub. I can test it locally but does that mean it will work with all of my routes? Per the Garmin site:

The following devices are NOT compatible with routing in BaseCamp:

    zumo 400 series
    zumo 500 and 550
    zumo 660 and 665

These devices may appear to take a route without issue however, when navigating the route, an error message may appear. An alternate program to use is MapSource. First download the map to your computer, then use MapSource to create and transfer routes to your zumo.

An "error message MAY appear". Not a lot of confidence there. Using Mapsource is brutal. Most time it doesn't recognize "routes" but instead wants to treat them as "tracks". Garmin is supposedly the leading GPS maker in the world, and for the price of these things, you'd think they could get their software to properly work with their devices.
  • Well it does work with most, why there is an issue with some Zumo devices I have no idea. You could always try running a route in simulation mode to ensure it works, or look on the Zumo forums at www.zumoforums.com as there are folks posting there who claim they get it to work okay.
