Default waypoint symbol

Is there a way to change the default waypoint symbol in BaseCamp?

In Mapsource I can select all the waypoints in a list and change all the waypoint symbols in one go. this isn't possible with BaseCamp, I can only change one at a time.

Thank you
  • Actually it is possible in Basecamp. Block select those you wish to change, right click and select Open, then change the symbol.

Well, I would never have thought to click on "Open", thanks very much.

But no way to change the default waypoint symbol, i.e. the one you get when you make a new waypoint, or import GPX files?
  • It is possible to change the default waypoint symbol (only for new waypoints, it doesn't change the existing ones. Also note that when the symbol is defined in a GPX file, that will be used instead of the default one).

Go to this page: http://www.javawa.nl/symbolen.html and choose the symbol you want. Click on it to download a batch file called "ViaSymbolSelector.cmd". Double click this file to run it, and type "w" to change the default waypoint symbol.

The page is in Dutch only, but using above instructions it is pretty straightforward.

Thanks, that worked fine for me.

@ STUARTMW I'm still not sure (after reading the linked thread) if it's possible to change the waypoint symbol when importing a GPX file from a third party software (TrackLogs)

The only way I'm aware of is to use a (good) text editor to do a find/replace in the GPX files. If the GPX file only contains tracks I don't think that is possible since they don't define any symbols (the ones I have don't).

I think I'm happy enough ATM, the ability to select more than one waypoint and change the symbol with a couple of clicks is good enough for my use case.

    Thanks all.
  • Hi there.  This is an old thread now, but It's one of the first ones that comes up in a search.  If a route you import is full of flags do this.  Convert the imported route back to a track, delete the imported route and then convert the track back to a route and the flags will have disappeared.
