Shaping Points Announcing on Nuvi 2789

Shaping or 'do not alert' points sent by Basecamp are honoured on the nuvi series, from 2013 models onwards.

How exactly are you sending them to your nuvi? Note that if you view the route in your nuvi's trip planner app, shaping points show as a circle with a short line either side. Viapoints that announce show with a flag. You can change them by tapping the symbol.

Well...

...right after reading your reply I created a route with shaping points set to NOT alert in Base Camp & loaded them into my Nuvi 2789.

After loading, I made sure none showed a flag versus a "circle with lines" like you described, I took a drive and VOILA, I got no alerts!!

So evidently, when I sent routes before, some must have had a flag icon on them but I never realized it nor would I have known what it meant if I saw it.

I now understand the meaning of those "circle" symbols so now I have a way to double check my routes although touching the circle symbol does nothing in my Nuvi, in other words I can't change the shaping point from non-alerting to alerting on the Nuvi unless I am doing something else wrong.

When you touch the circle symbol your nuvi should recalculate the route and change it to a normal viapoint. When you touch a flag symbol you should get a message asking if you want to change it to a shaping point. Is that not happening?

Well I just learned something else...

If I touch the circle symbol in the initial list of destinations after selecting the trip in the Trip Planner app, nothing happens.

If I select the Options setting for that Trip, I get the option to Edit Destinations. If I select Edit Destinations, when I touch the symbol I get the option to change to shaping point.

What is confusing is, the shaping points I sent for the route/trip from Base Camp appear as small orange circles with lines as you described and they don't alert. If I select one of those points in Edit Destinations, I get the option to change that circle symbol to a shaping point which is strange because I assumed since it was displayed as a small orange circle with lines, it already was a shaping point. A message also appears that reads, "Duration & arrival times will be removed. Change to a shaping point?"

If I select the option YES to change what I assumed was already a shaping point to a shaping point, the symbol changes from a small orange circle with lines to an orange flag. If I select the orange flag after that, I get the same, "Duration & arrival times will be removed. Change to a shaping point?" message and it goes back to the circle symbol.

I assume it is just a quirk because the shaping points did not alert when they were displayed as small orange circles but I may try another route today after changing the orange circles to orange flags.

I don't see this, so there is clearly a software difference between my 2508 running trip planner and your nuvi running trip planner.
