Created route but unable to adjust stops & days - need to split days.

I created a pretty customized route with many waypoints. Original defined as 10 days but want to split that up into about 15. How on earth do you do this in Basecamp?

For example, some days are too long, so I want to split those days up. In Streets & Trips this was easy - I just click on one of my waypoints and say "Arrive at 5pm, Depart at 8am" specifying a night stay. If I do this in Basecamp, it strangely stays in that day, even though it crosses midnight.

The route is too long and complicated to start dragging stuff into the next day in a trickle down manner - it quickly became too unruly and cumbersome. I also couldn't see how to add the same waypoint twice (ending at the waypoint at the end of the day, reusing it for the beginning of the next day).

Thanks

It sounds like you are using Trip Planner. If you open your trip, then you should see two icons that let you toggle between two different views in the bottom left corner: flattened view and expanded view. Select the expanded view and you should a + icon in the title of each Hub. Clicking that will add a another day to your trip. Alternatively, you can right click on any day and choose 'add a day before' or 'add a day after' from the context menu.
  • Yeah, I'm using Trip Planner. It doesn't really matter which view I'm in - both expanded and condensed are basically the same. I don't want to use the + at the top because that just appends a day at the end, which is of no use.

For example, if I have a 800 mile day, and want to shorten that day to a 400 mile day, I want to insert a stop in the middle of that day (not at the end of the trip). How do I do that?

If I do a "Set Time" on where I'd prefer to stop, and select an Arrival time or Departure time, it should insert the day there, no? But even if I say "Stay for 12" or even "stay for 24 hours" - the days in the trip stay the same? It magically creates a 40 hour day?

In MS Streets & Trips, the same functionality exists. But if you click a waypoint along the way and adjust the arrival time to 5pm, or tell it you are going to stay over night, it correctly assumes when you wake up, it is a new day, shifting the subsequent calendar days downstream, and that new day starts where you stopped.

Somehow, I did find a "split day" option (somewhere, can't find it now) which sounded like what I needed, and I tried that. But the entire return trip disappeared from my Trip Planner. I'm not sure where it went. If I select the last day that says "Nothing Planned" - the map shows the entire route home. The map does not reflect the trip now and I'm not sure how to get it back.

Very weird behavior, but thanks for any tips. Hope this all makes sense!
  • Basically what I want to do is pretty simple. Lay out all my waypoints for the entire trip. Then look at the mileage & calendar and select where I want to stop each day. Pretty simple. This was a no brainer in MS Streets & Trips. But I'm trying to use Basecamp because of the obvious benefits of direct GPS integration.
  • Here's another odd thing:

I have a route planned for Sept 1 through 10th. I'm staying a few days in the middle. I decide to stay an extra day. So on the date where I'm leaving to come home, I push this out one day.

But it changes EVERY SINGLE DAY BEFORE THAT - shifting the entire trip. Why????

This trip planner just sucks at this point. LOL

You can try inserting a waypoint at the mile marker you want your day to end, then drag and drop the remaining waypoints on the next day. Just remember that the last waypoint on a day needs to be the first waypoint on the next day. You can right click to copy and paste waypoints from one day to the next.
