Hiding towns and villages

When trying to view bigger picture and need more roads visible on map Basecamp will show lots of black spots for villages etc. like this.

Cannot really see any point on showing on higher zoom level all of these as it messes up the display.

Any way to hide these in the future? I know there is an option to hide these in map features, but it will simply hide all of the towns and villages no matter how big or small they are. Would be still good to see bigger towns.
  • Just set detail level to medium. I tend to work at that level for most of the time.

That is one option yes, but it will also hide a lot of roads. I have big screen on my Mac and would like to use that when planning a route.

Right now it is that either I see lots of black spots or then I need to switch between different activity types to show and hide information. Not very convenient.
  • If you're zoomed out that far you won't see minor roads anyway. There are also two other levels between medium and highest. I really can't see how much more flexible it could be.

Juvander, I posted a similar query a few months ago and the conclusion was "no, there is no good mechanism for what we want." It's a real shame; I share your view (no pun intended) that the information being provided is often not useful for planning contexts and should be configurable.

On one level lower zoom it looks like this without cities and with cities

This is the level of details I would like to see on my big screen, but when viewing with cities (and other details) it is just completely useless view. There is no added value on just those black dots filling up whole screen.

    You get the point?
  • Sorry but I don't. I have no issues setting the zoom and detail level so that I can easily plan routes, I'm doing it day in day out. Having said that I use BC on Windows, so it's possible the mac version isn't as flexible.

Windows version is the same, uselessly showing those black dots all over the map and hiding roads.

You won't hit this issue when you plan your routes through highways, but when planning routes through smaller roads this is a real pain. Not on all countries, but for example on Poland it is a nightmare as you can see on the snapshots. In Finland where I live not that big deal as we don't have that many cities.

This is what I don't get. If you need to plan on smaller roads you can't do it zoomed out at the level you show, you need to zoom in anyway so the 'black dots' aren't an issue then

That's it, with Windows version you don't have the issue as your resolution is so limited ;) but try with http://www.apple.com/imac-with-retina/ to plan longer trips across countries you can and want to see the overall picture in detail :)

Here's an example of a trip I just finished: https://spottracking.azurewebsites.net/SPOT/Map.html?q=Summer2015. On this trip I had lots of issues while planning for it and too much time consumed on trying to get an overall picture clear enough.
