Both the Appstore and Web release of Mac BaseCamp 4.4.8 have been released. The main fix for this release was allowing the creation of new trips in Trip Planner for OSX 10.10.3+ users.

Release notes:

- Fixed hidden Trip Planner to/from quick search text fields issue.
- Fixed create adventure issue with continue button being greyed out.
- Fixed POI information window crash.
- Fixed double-click adventure crash.
- Fixed phantom Trip Planner add-POI quick search issue.
- Fixed Trip Planner print itinerary issue.
  • Given the speeds some bikes fly by me maybe Basecamp takes that into account *grin*

BC 4.4.8 on an iMac 3.2 gHz, OS 10.9.5. So far so good, though one odd quirk: routes created in the Motorcycling activity, when switched to Automobile and recalculated, add to the travel time but not the distance (implying that the actual routing has not changed?).

I haven't had the opportunity to bear down on the details yet, but a 371-mile ride from the Hudson Valley in NY to a state park in West Virginia calculates at 5:00 by bike and 5:33 by car, with identical values of 371 miles for both. A quick glance does not reveal changes in routing or directions.

Could you post the waypoints for these two routes? I did a quick test and wasn't able to recreate the issue. What map are you using?
  • The forum software won't let me attach the route as a GPX file. The start point is at N41° 55.754' W73° 46.394' and the end point at N39° 30.178' W78° 17.479'

I am using CN NA NT 2014.40 and the Driving and Motorcycling activities are set to Fastest time (with no other prefs selected).

    Hope this helps,

unfortunately, on my MBPR Mid 13, with Retina, 16 Gb RAM I experience the same crashes when I'm panning, zooming and just keeping app running :( for 5 minutes it crashed about 5 times. I generated reports and gave up. while at the same time it works quite stable, as well as previous version on my iMac mid 2011 with 16 gb of RAM, almost no crashes. BC Database is the same.

    Having problem with 4.4.8

I have 2 Rino 650s and a Macbook Air and an iMac and have been using Basecamp and Rino for several years and am very familiar with how the software should work.
Updated Basecamp on the Airbook to 4.4.8.
When the Rino first connects in Basecamp on the Macbook Air the two "Device Transfer" buttons are selectable but as soon as I select Topo Australia & New Zealand V4 map which is in my Rino the "Send to Device" button is greyed out and not selectable but the receive from device is selectable.
If I then select the Worldwide Autoroute DEM Basemap, NR map the send to device button remains unselectable.
The problem persists until I close down Basecamp and re open it but the problem then repeats its self.
If I take the Rino and USB cable to my iMac which is using Basecamp 4.2.4 (previous version) none of this happens.
I have deleted Basecamp 4.4.8 from the Mackbook Air and reinstalled but the fault still persisted.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Most likely you are experiencing an out of memory crash when BC is running on a Retina monitor. Your mid 2011 iMac probably isn't Retina. We are fixing this for BC 4.5.

    Hi Bob,

I wasn't around in the 4.2.4 timeframe, but it looks like showing both buttons when a device is selected was a bug that we fixed. If you select a device or a device map under 'My Garmin Devices', then we are correctly disabling the 'Send to Device' button icon and context-menu option. We do this because we don't have any data selected to send to the device when a device is selected. I don't know what we did previously, but it seems like we may have remembered the previous list or folder selected and sent that data. However, it would be ambiguous what is being sent since the list or folder isn't highlighted once you select a device.

If you want to switch to a device map w/o selecting a device, then change maps using the Maps menu.

    Hope that helps explain it.

    Kind regards,
    Greg
  • I have an issue. In earlier version when you have any other tool than Hand chosen you could always use key Space with mouse click to pan around. Now, when spacebar is pressed the map starts panning when you just move the mouse even without a click. That makes it impossible to pan around more than the visible area on screen.
  • I'm not seeing this on my installs. Are you sure that the drag/drop lock settings in your Mac preferences have not changed?
