How do I import GPX files as routes?

Hi
When I import routes saved as GPX files to Base Camp they automatically open as tracks. I can of course convert them, but that is not at all convenient and sometimes produces horrendous results that need extensive tweaking - what is the solution that I am missing?

Routes should import as routes and tracks as tracks. Where are you getting this 'route' from?

Thanks. I am using a web app for designing routes - I think it is called Sity Guides Editor (it is by SityTrail).

Any suggestions?

Looks like that creates tracks not routes.

Thanks, I will contact the developer, but I don´t understand why anyone would want to create tracks rather than routes?
Also, are there any alternative ways to convert the files from tracks to routes - BaseCamp sometimes seems to make a lot of errors and instead of just joining two dots creates a spiders web.
Finally is there a Garmin forum for owners of Garmin GPS hiking units - such as the 64S?

If it's creating a spiders web when converting to a route it'll be because the map in BaseCamp isn't routeable on some parts of the track. It's one reason why tracks are used as then the map doesn't matter.

As for a forum for your GPS, unfortunately there are no forums here for On the trail devices.

Thanks, why is not possible for BaseCamp to just link the points with a direction at each one to the next?

If you want that choose the Direct Activity profile.

Hi, I used the Direct Activity profile but now when I load the route into my 64S I get the error message "Only 50 points can be used for On Road navigation." What do I need to adjust, as this is a walking route? When I click info on the route in BC it says "Transportation Method: Hiker". There are more than 50 directions. Thanks.

You need to set your 64 to 'off road' or choose the direct profile there, not sure which on the 64 model.

Thanks, the route profile in the 64 was originally set to "direct routing". It won´t even load the route in the device, so it seems I cannot change the profile to "off road". I tried with another route with 49 waypoints and when i change the profile to "off road" it tries to recalculate. I went back to the route in BC and changed the profile to "off road" and I still have the same message in the 64S.
I found a reference to a limit of 50 "via points" but this is getting too advanced for me:

What is a via point as opposed to a waypoint on a route?
UPDATE: I tried settings > routing > activity : "prompted", and then later selecting "direct routing" when i open the route with the 50+ points. I did´t get the warning message. Fingers crossed, I will try more later.
