Custom POI overwriting custom POI

Hi all
I am a lawn bowler and have created custom POI's and i am trying to load them to Basecamp so when i need to go to a bowls green i can just make a route to any green i need and send it to device but for some reason one will over write the other, IE i make new list name it then import kml to list no problem but when i import next kml it overwrites first file so i only end up with one file .
There must be a way of doing this.
If anyone could help with this that would be great Thanks in advance Dell
  • I'm confused as you are!

POI files are normally .gpi files. Where are you getting these kml files from?

In any case are you renaming them as you import them?

My files are ov2 files that I have to convert to kml that is the only file I have found base camp will see although I have not tried gpi I will give it a try but what is happening is I start new list bowls club import gloustershire bowls clubs to it no problem then click on bowls club list to import next file let's say Oxfordshire imports ok but then no gloustershire bowls club.
I am quite new to garmin always used tomtom before.
I don't want to rename also each file contains 60+ POI's
    Thanks for reply Dell
  • Strange. Have you tried importing each file to a new folder to see if that works? If it does you could then combine them in Basecamp.

Yes I have tried that still the same problem although it overwrites the folder then not the file.
I am about to try converting poi file to gpi to see if that works but the information I have read said I need kml so basecamp can see it , I will get back after I try. Dell
  • Sorry, I may have misled you as you can't import .gpi files into Basecamp although it will read them off your device. So if you have the .gpi files you can copy them to the POI folder on your GPS and then Basecamp will read them when your device is connected, allowing you to plan the routes you need.

Thanks for that i was wondering why i could not find anything to convert them so as i understand it basecamp will only read .gpi files of the device but as i use a virtual USB so i don't have to connect the device every time i need to find a way of converting said files to .gpi and putting them in virtual drive .
I wonder if converting them to csv as POI loader can install them to device so why not virtual device.
Will keep you posted Thanks Dell
  • POI Loader should indeed be able to save them to a virtual device, just select the 'Save to computer' option rather than 'Save to device'. I always save my POI Loader files to my PC then manually copy them as required to my GPS.

Well that worked the only thong is they show up as one long list in my collection so now i have to sort that but at least they are on there also i did not have to save to Mac as i was given the option to save to virtual drive.
By the by i think i have read somthing about if given the option to also install map to mac if you have lifetime map you do not need to connect device to use basecamp but it would not work for me i had to make a virtual drive.
Anyway thanks for your help Dell
  • It depends what you mean by 'install maps'. You can't simply copy them across. Basecamp will only read them off a 'removable drive', which includes a virtual drive. You can however use Express to install the maps directly to your mac for Basecamp to use.

I tried that in express it asked if wanted to re install update 2015.40 I Selected other options and install to device and computer but when I open basecamp in notifications it said only using base or world base map can't remember what one but the memory goes when you get over 60.
