MacBook Pro not seeing GPS

I have 2013 MacBook Pro running X 10.9.5.
My GPS is an old GPS 276C which connects perfectly to my Imac but isn't seen by Basecamp on the Macbook.

I am using a Garmin USB cable. The GPS beeps and says USB connected, but Basecamp nor WebUpdater will see the GPS.

I have tried :
>numerous USB cables
>Rebooting MacBook
>Deleted Basecamp and reinstalled
>Took battery out of GPS and reinstalled.
>connected with GPS on and off. etc.

The GPS regularly beeps and says USB Connected, but software does not see it.

Looked for USB drivers for MAC and didn't find any.

Suggestions??

Thanks Wurth if it's possibile I try to find a Mac with USB3 to test the device and I report it here.
  • Filesystem Format?

I'm going to be contrarian about the USB3 issue and ask, "What is your boot disk format? Is it case sensitive or not case sensitive?"

Base Camp has historically been lazy about case used to specify filenames. Some GPS's mount as /Volumes/GARMIN/, others /Volumes/Garmin/, and know first hand that if your boot volume is case sensitive (and therefore your /Volumes/ directory and most everything you mount will be at least partially case sensitive) then things like Garmin Express work but not Base Camp.

In my situation Base Camp saw the presence of my 1490 but could not read or write contents. Silently failed.
  • The first thing I do when I get a new Mac is to wipe the internal drive and reformat case sensitive. I've used Unix too long not to do that. All of my drives (except for things like USB sticks) are HFS+ case sensitive. I've never had trouble with any of my Garmin's and BaseCamp because of that. OTOH, all of mine mount as /Volumes/GARMIN (except for the VIRB Elite, which is /Volumes/NO_NAME like other cameras). I've found that Apple's FAT software can be a little flakey, though. You sometimes have to try things twice before they'll work right.
  • 2019 MacBook Pro 16" OS 11.2.2 with Zumo-XT.  Same Issues as described in this thread! Express works, BaseCamp & WebUpdater do not.

Zumo-XT can be seen in System Information under USB, USB 2.0 Hub.

  • Please start a new thread rather than resurrect a 5 year old one as software versions etc have all moved on, thanks.
