How do I remove a section from a route?

I'm trying to create a route in Basecamp, but the software is adding extra steps to the route. For example, I want to go south on I-81 and turn east onto us-60, but the route has me turning east onto us-60, then getting back onto I-81, travelling back north for a few miles, turning onto another road, then doing a U-turn and coming back the same way, to the same point, then continuing on us-60.

It's also done something similar, when going through a town, it tells me to make a turn onto a street, travel a few blocks, then come back using the same street to the same point before continuing.

How can I cut this extra loop out of my route? There is nothing listed in via points that can be removed without removing most of my route with it.

Thanks!

    Hello Rastaman,

Just guessing here but when my routes do that it is usually because I click a viapoint on the wrong side of the road.

Zoom way up in that goofy area and make sure the little viapoint dot is on the correct side of the road.

Also, try moving the point back or ahead on the road you want, to see what happens.

Thanks for the reply, Don. I will give that a try next time it happens.

While I was waiting for a solution, I dragged the route to another road, and when I dragged it back, the loop was still there, but it created a via point in the list that I was able to delete. After it changed the route, I dragged the route back where I wanted it, and this time it was right.

Using your tip, I'll try to be more aware of where I click when I create my routes -- Maybe it won't happen again.
