Folder won't transfer from BaseCamp to Nuvi 2555?

I've got a Nuvi 2555 and am running BaseCamp 4.4.6 on a Windows 7 Pro laptop.
All software is current on both devices. I've created a Folder called Florida in BaseCamp
and put some waypoints and routes and in BaseCamp they show in the Florida folder.

I then connect the 2555 to the laptop and BaseCamp recognizes it and shows it in
the Devices view and has the "Internal Storage" and CN NA NT 2015.30 sub-items listed

I can't get the "Florida" folder to transfer to the Nuvi though. The waypoints and routes transfer ok
but the "Florida" folder doesn't show in the "Where To?-> Saved" view. I've created other folders before this in BaseCamp and have gotten them transferred and they show up there but this one won't go for some reason.

Any ideas?
  • Basecamp never sent 'Folders' to a nuvi, but it did use to allocate a category name to waypoints that were sent, which was the same as the folder name.

However due to user complaints this no longer happens. You need to assign categories to the waypoints in Basecamp for them to be sent. To do so open the waypoints in Basecamp and select the categories tab.

Note you can if you need to 'block select' waypoints, right click and select 'Open' ... you can then allocate categories to them all at once.

Hm, I don't recall having to do anything special before but then again, I'm getting older. ;) Thanks for the reply - I'll poke around with the category function.

    Thanks!
  • You didn't with earlier versions of BaseCamp. When did you last try it?

It's been quite a while. Probably a year or two.

So I went into BC and added a "Florida" category tag to all of the routes and waypoints, then transferred to the Nuvi but I still don't see a "Florida" entry in the Saved view. grrrr Maybe I can find an earlier version of BC laying around somewhere.
  • Well you should do. Did you delete all the old entries first? If not that will be the problem.

The category/list behaviour changed within the last year hence why it's different to when you last tried it.

    Well you should do.

    ??

No, I didn't delete all of the old stuff first. So I need to delete all of the data off of the Nuvi and then re-load the data to it from BC? I'll give that a shot.

Yep, removing all of the data from the Nuvi and then re-transferring it from BC worked. The Florida "list" transferred etc.... Seems like it'd be easier if they'd make BC simply replace the Nuvi data upon using the "Send to Device" menu selection or at least provide a popup upon selecting that option telling you to remove all of the data on the Nuvi first or new lists/folders won't be created.

As a software tester for IBM for 38 years, I think I can say that this is a pretty poor usability item. Not a "shot", simply my viewpoint.

In any event, thank you for your replies. I'll put a big sticker on the back of the Nuvi reminding me of this bizarre behavior.
  • It's not a BaseCamp issue but how nuvis work. Glad you got it sorted though.
