Basecamp 4.4.5 won't import Google Maps KMZ file

Hi,

trying to import a kmz file from Google Maps to Basecamp 4.4.5 and getting error message of ".... is not a valid KMZ file and could not be opened." Anyone know how to cure this?

I must say I deeply disappointed in Basecamp the old Roadtrip software was a lot better.

Better is always subjective, but what do you miss in BC that you could do in Roadtrip?

As for a kmz file, a valid .kmz file should import without issue ... I've not experienced problems. Are you able to post the .kmz file here so I can check it out?

Hi,

thanks for your reply. It was much more straight forward to plan a route in Roadtrip. In BC you have to make sure that you click on the correct side of the road, otherwise you get some strange results! I have tried to upload the KMZ file but it just comes up with an exclamation mark against it and I can't attach it, any ideas on how I can upload?.

Well I'm not sure about strange results. I'd expect BC to route me to the points I want to go to, so on a divided road it is important to click the correct side.

If it won't upload to this site nor import into BC then it sounds like something is wrong with the file. Are you able to put it into dropbox (or similar) and post a link to it?

Just converted the KMZ to GPX file and imported that into BC without issue. SO I don't think there is anything wrong with KMZ file. Shared here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/39ub2p5uhrpsj12/Portsmouth%20to%20Rhyl.kmz?dl=0

You're right, there is nothing wrong with the file, it imported for me without a problem. Note though I'm on Win version 4.4.4 so it's either a problem with your installation or with the latest mac version of BC. Hopefully someone will be along shortly and can check that file on a mac.

Thanks for your help. My guess is it's the Mac version of BC. Managed to find a converter, JaVaWa RTWtool, that converts from KMZ to GPX. Very easy to use, now got the route in BC by this method.

I've done - using BC 4.4.5 (MacBook Pro, OS 10.8.5) - without any problems ...
