MacBook Pro - Best way to manage waypoints and routes on my Mc for Nuvi 2555LMT?

My Nuvi 2555LMT and MacBook Pro have all up to date software. I have installed and am using Garmin HomePort for my marine applications; and Garmin BaseCamp for liking and automotive applications. I am planning a cross USA road trip and have been adding waypoints by hand on my Nuvi 2555LMT. When I plug the device into my Mac both BaseCamp and HomePort recognize the device. My question is this: What is the most efficient way to manage waypoints, and routes for a long trip with about 100 waypoints? Is there another Garmin Application for my Mac that is better to to use? Can I load everything into BaseCamp and use that?

Thank you
  • I would use Basecamp. I've used it for years now for planning routes on my nuvis and find it ideal.

Just a few things to note. You cannot delete or amend any data on your nüvi. That has to be done on the device. My work flow is to copy any data into Basecamp, work with it then send it back to my nüvi.

Note when you do this a file named temp.gpx is created in the GPX folder on your nüvi. It will be loaded into your nuvi when you disconnect it from your mac and switch it on. Once that is complete delete temp.gpx from your nüvi.
  • Understood. Thank you. Very helpful. When I connected the Nuvi to my Mac and updated the lifetime maps from the Garmin site to the 4GB micro SD card; Garmin Express asked if I wanted to copy the maps to my Mac. I accepted but do not know where they are on my Mac.
