Generell informations to Basecamp

Hi together,

I'll try to put my questions in english (i don't know, if somewhere else here is a german section ;-) ).

I'm working first time with base camp and I've seen some videos, but I have still some questions and perhaps somebody can give me some answers.

1. Is a difference between base camp on a mac and on a windows pc? If I see videos there are a lot of functions in the navigation, which i don't see. Are the other versions of base camp with more functions possible? See my menu picture.

2. Is it not possible like in tyre to plan a rout with satellite view? I know, i can check the tour later in google earth, but i will plan on the screen with satellite views, because than I see, where a forest is. No function in base camp to switch directly between different views like tyre or google maps?

3. If i have a route with different waypoints, can i separate them later? I can move only one waypoint to another route, but not more than one point in one action? That would simplify my planing a lot and so I'm astonished, that this functions seems not to be here at this moment.

I hope my questions are readable ;-)

Thanks for your answers!

Kind regards

Dirk
  • 1. Yes

    2. You can see your route in Google Earth by selecting View, Google Earth (at least in the PC version)

    3. You can have waypoints in as many routes as you wish.

The German site is here https://forum.garmin.de/forum.php
  • 1. The differences between BC for Mac and BC for Win are a good thing in my opinion. I think the developers have done a great of developing BC to be a native Mac application that plays well the OS X strengths. There are multiple way of creating routes in BC, the video shows just one. I prefer to select waypoints in the order I want my route to go and right click to select create route from waypoints.

    2. You can download bird eye view for a small fee to get Satellite images for BC Maps. You can transfer Bird Eye View Maps to most Garmin devices.

    3. To create a trip, I start a new list. I select the waypoint I need from my collection (command click to cherry pick) and drag them to my trip list. List are just a pointer to the waypoint, tracks, routes, (geo-object) in My Collection. You can use the waypoint in as many list as you wish. To delete a geo-object from BC you have to delete it from My Collection. You can right click a geo-object in a list to delete from My Collection. If you are a Mac user and never used MapSource, you will be very pleased with BC for Mac. MapSource is a very powerful legacy mapping program Garmin developed years ago. MapSource has a very steep learning curve and does not have a modern user interface. User that learned MapSource are still complaining that BC is not MapSource.
