BaseCamp v4.2.4 Suddenly Won't Recognize 62s (MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.5)

My 62s suddenly isn't being recognized by BaseCamp. When I connect my 62s via USB to my Mac, it won't show up in BaseCamp under "My Garmin Devices", nor will is show up on my desktop as a device. I'm using the USB cable that came in the box with my 62s. I've tried opening up BaseCamp, and then plugging in the USB, and also in reverse order (USB connected, then opening up BaseCamp). My GPS will show the USB icon for awhile, and then power up and show my current location. When I unplug the USB, I get a message saying that I've disconnected from an external power source and asking if I wish to power off the device. I've never had this issue before.

Help! Any thoughts?

BaseCamp: v 4.2.4
GPS Unit: 62s
Mac: MacBook Pro, OS X 10.7.5
  • Doesn't sound like a Basecamp issue, more like a device/mac issue. Try the steps in this FAQ

Thank you for your advice. It looks like I'll have to do the "boot block" (I'd love to know where that name came from!) on my device. Do you know if this will erase all my tracks and waypoints on my GPS? I need to get some really important Search and Rescue tracks off of the GPS before erasing everything...
  • Simply because it blocks the device from booting! AFAIK a boot block won't delete anything, just allows your device to connect.

Haha! I guess that would be a good reason for the "boot block" term. Speaking of which… I've successfully installed WebUpdater on my Mac and have followed the instructions posted online. My device isn't being "found" by WebUpdater either, even after several minutes of holding the correct button, waiting for it to be "found", and pressing the "Try Again" button numerous times within WebUpdater. Any suggestions?

Thanks, SUSAMB, for helping so much!
