Hello,

Seems as an easy question but how language is changed in BaseCamp version for Mac? In the Windows version is very easily - Edit > Options > General > Language. But no such menu in the Mac version.

P.P.: I forgot to write I am not using the latest version of BC but the latest compatible with OSx 10.6.8.

Regards,

    Hello,
With OSX 10.9.4 and BaseCamp 4.3.4 it's the same thing, nothing in the Preferences/general panel to change language.

Your Mac OS X preferences determine the Language used by Applications.

    Thanks.

The problem is that I am using my imac in German with my zumo 590LM. I prefer to use it in German. BTW I am previous owner of zumo 660 and was very happy with it.

But now with my newest zumo all the city names are in German. For example Ljubljana is now Laibach. See the image. Why is it Laibach?

When I was using zumo 660 didn't have this issue. Ljubljana was Ljubljana.

I understood that this is because zumo 660 is using CNE NT, while zumo 590 the newest CNE NTU. But is there a solution to get around it?
  • Surely you need to change the language option on your zumo then

Certainly in Basecamp choosing English you get Ljubljana, and if you choose German you get Laibach.

    Hi sussamb,

The map is installed on the imac. Not read from the zumo.
  • Thanks.

Well that's what I suspected but you said this so I wasn't sure

In any case, as I posted, that's just the way it is when you select German as the language. It's the same on mine also.

As you now see, City Navigator maps are multi-lingual (National Language Support) and BaseCamp changes the map language to match the BaseCamp selected language; just like your zumo does. If you want English language map names you could attach your zumo590LM which is set to English and use it's maps -- which should appear in English.
  • The language of the device shouldn't matter to BaseCamp. BaseCamp will show the language specific name for cities and apparently the map says the German name for that city is Laibach. If you want to run BaseCamp in English, you can go change the language in Preferences, run BaseCamp and then change it back.

In the Mac version there is not an option to change the language in the Preferences. It uses the language set for the Mac. If the mac is set to German then everything in BeseCamp is in German. Including the mapping. (Laibach)

BTW Microsoft already figured how to solve this task in the Region and Language settings in the Control Panel of Windows. For example there you can set data/time format for the country, location, keyboard etc.

Because for example I may wish to use BaseCamp in German but the mapping in English or Cyrrilic or visa verse as in this way it is much easier for me drawing a route. I can orientate faster. Doubt it is so hard to be added in BC. Hopefully the developers are reading this. :) This same applies to the Windows version of Basecamp.
