Well this sucks....Basecamp does not recognize my installed City Navigator anymore on my Montana 600. I've tried everything I can think of short of buying a Tom Tom. Any thoughts? I searched the forum but did not find any answers...maybe I am looking in the wrong places if there are solutions. Thanks in advance for any help.
How exactly would you download the CN maps directly to the computer with Garmin Express since the maps are preloaded on the device? I have a Montana 600 and with Basecamp, I used to be able to view the maps on my device (which is really the ONLY way to create a route file and know that it will work on your device when you load the route while out on a trip). I am using this on a Macbook with latest OS, and also have the latest Basecamp, firmware for my device, and the latest CN mapset. Until recently, I could view the maps, by simply clicking on the device, then select the maps dropdown from the top menu, and select the CN maps. It would always come up with a warning about the fact that they couldn't be transferred to my computer or some such, but that's fine, I simply want to be able to view the maps in Basecamp in order to create my routes.. any fix available for this?
Well in your case with pre-loaded maps you can't, but others may have lifetime updates in which case you can.
So what's happening now? Is the map simply not showing in the drop down box?
If so a master reset of the Montana may help, but first run JaVaWa's Device Manager and see if that tells you the map should be visible in Basecamp. If it doesn't set it to be so http://www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html
yes, the CN maps simply do not show up in the drop down list of maps.. they used to however.. but yeah, found a thread on a different forum last night about the JavaWa app.. hoping Garmin fixes this at some point, seems like it's been broke for a while.. but good to know there are smart folks out there coming up with solutions.
Well it's not broken. If your maps aren't set to show for some reason they won't. JaVaWa's program sets the correct 'flag' in the map so that it's visible to Basecamp.
A. it used to work, and no indication that the feature was removed intentionally B. there is no way in the Basecamp app to make them visible again (barring any kind of reinstall, or going through some process to unlock again) C. it takes a third party app to make them visible again
Well something's broken but it's not Basecamp. Basecamp will view maps that are set to be visible in Basecamp. I've never had a map visible in Basecamp become 'invisible' and never a problem with Garmin maps. Some 3rd party maps over which Garmin has no control don't show, hence the need to use a 3rd party app.
What's happened to your map in your case I have no idea, but I would guess the fault lies there.
