BaseCamp useless with Nuvi 3597 Please tell me its operator error

I upgraded my Nuvi 1490 several months back and BC routes uploaded to the Nuvi 3597 were the same route on both. I think this is referred to as not recalculating the route but I don't the tern is technically correct. What ever the term, I was a very happy camper. Being able to upload a route to the 3597 with our regard to the routing preferences on the Nuvi and get the same route was great. When I went to Trip Planner to get the route the first time, it took several seconds for the route to appear but life was good because I got the same route.

After updating BC and possibly Firmware on the Nuvi, the uploaded routes are pretty much useless. For example, a route with two waypoints inserted to shape the route is 131 miles. I created the route the normal way and it Trip Planner and upload both routes. The two routes give the same results when uploaded. They show 164 miles, the route is going to the shaping waypoints and back tracking to the route. If I am at the starting location and tap go, I am asked to select my first designation, if I select the first shaping waypoint (inserted, not a drag), I get the 164 mile route. If I select the true destination, I get a 130 mile route with the shaping waypoints ignored. This makes the 3597 useless for routing as I can no longer try to match preferences and get the same route. Is there a way to fix the problem.
  • It's the way the device works :-)

If you want the route as loaded select the first waypoint, when you reach there it will automatically switch to the second waypoint, and use any 'shaping points' as necessary.
  • The route is the problem. Before selecting the first shaping waypoint gave me the BC route. After updates if I select the first shaping point, the route goes over to the shaping waypoint and back to the fastest route. The route is 30 miles longer and taking a road that has been closed 20 years.
  • Well you've lost me :-)

Earlier you seemed to imply that if you selected the final waypoint you got the incorrect route. Trip planner gives you the option to do that but to follow the whole route as planned you need to select the first waypoint as I posted. If you do that then the nuvi follows the route via the shaping points from the first waypoint to the next. Or at least it does on my 2508.
  • Sorry I lost you, If is selected the final waypoint I got the fastest route, the shaping waypoints were ignored. I assume that is what it is suppose to do. I was in a panic because the route I was getting (selecting the first shaping waypoint) on the nuvi was not close to the route being uploaded after BC and Firmware updates. Instead of using the inserted waypoints to shape the route, the nuvi was going to the shaping waypoints and returning to the fastest route, adding 30 miles to the trip and using a closed road. I update from 2014.4 maps to 2015.1 and it seems to working correctly now. Does not seem possible a map update could fix my problem but who cares if it works.
  • Well as you say ... as long as it's working for you now :)
  • OK here is what put me in a panic. I use the same BC Library with 3 Macs. DropBox is a perfect solution for syncing except one thing. Preference and Activities are not synced because the data is not stored with the BC database information. I had "avoid seasonal roads" set on the MBP from which I uploaded the route to the Nuvi but was checking the route on the iMac which did not have the same routing preferences. My 3597 was showing the route being uploaded, the route I thought I was uploading had different routing preferences.

I upload from the third mac after doing a 2015.1 map install and it started working. I did not see how the maps update could have fixed the problem and tracked it back to the routing preferences.

I'll be testing this out tomorrow with the new 2497LMT I just got in the mail; sure is different from my NUVI 550
