Basecamp refuses to calculate a route

Made a list, included 20 or so waypoints. Arranged them in a route.

*Last night*, I was able to calculate a route, load it to my device, and use it today.

I had two waypoint changes that I noticed in the "real world".

Adding those two waypoints tonight, I attempted to recalculate the route. No errors, but it won't calculate. The list of 20 waypoints appears in the route, in the correct order, but all with the same start time, and no time calculated to complete any segment (all zero). That's sort of the behavior you might see if "Direct" was checked as routing option, versus "Driving" or "Motorcycle", but I do indeed have "driving" selected.

My Nuvi 2595 is plugged into my Mac running BaseCamp 4.2.4, and my MAC recognizes that it's there.

My MAC does NOT have it's own detailed maps; but the good results I got last night just had my Nuvi plugged in, using its maps.

I'm trying to make handouts for a rally we're hosting on Saturday. I had just what I needed last night; now, I can't recreate a slightly modified route map and list of directions.

Is there a setting I've missed somewhere? The route displays on the map all right, just with straight lines between all the waypoints.
  • Have you copied the route into Basecamp? You can't modify it on the device itself so need to copy it into BC, make the changes, recalculate and send it back to your 2595. You also need to ensure the map is selected and showing in BC, I assume it is?

Yes, thanks. It is showing; I used Basecamp to mark the waypoints and collect them in a list. Then, selected them and made the route. It looked great, so I copied it to my 2595, where it worked fine. I have beautiful Basecamp printouts of the color map, and of the route directions, from the evening that it worked "just fine".

But now, back in Basecamp, I can't get it to recalculate / calculate the route after I modified it slightly to use a couple of new waypoints. There are no errors being displayed, just that it won't calculate.

There are many google hits on a search for this problem, and I've looked at several. But I don't have "Direct" checked, Basecamp *does* have access to the detailed maps on my 2595 that *is* plugged in, etc.

    Thanks for your feedback...
  • With the route showing in the bottom left hand pane (ensuring it's the copy in Basecamp and not the one in your 2595) if you then double click the route you get the Route Properties tabs ... just confirm the routing activity in the drop down list there is set to Driving? If it is select another activity and select recalculate then choose Driving again and see if it will now recalculate correctly?

Thanks for your help; yes, the routing activity pulldown is set to "Driving". I had intentionally put it on "Direct" at one point, recalc'd, then back to "Driving" just to confirm that it sensed the setting properly, really just what you suggested. No change in the results, however.

I did discover a work around. I selected my set of waypoints, copied and pasted them into a new list. Then, in the new list, selected all the waypoints and indicated "create route from waypoints". That worked perfectly, so my immediate need for a route sheet and map that I can publish is satisfied.

So "something" about that original list / it's route stopped allowing Basecamp to calculate directions / create a route along roadways. Still unsure what, exactly.
