4.3.1 Corrupt list data work around

There is an issue with the migration process from 4.2 to 4.3.1 if you have relative date smart lists. On the second run of 4.3.1, BaseCamp will prompt that your list data is corrupted and it will revert to your backup (4.2.4) data. The only operational problem (other than the annoying prompt) is that any new list data is lost.

To work around this issue, delete and recreate any "date" smart lists using BaseCamp 4.3.1. There are many new options to date smart lists options that you can take advantage of. Any changes you make from that point on will be saved and the prompt will go away.

We are working on releasing 4.3.2 with the issue fixed as fast as we can, but the process typically takes a week. Making the software change is the easy part, but in the meantime the workaround should allow you to use 4.3.1 going forward without issues.

If you don't have smart lists, date relative smart lists in particular, then you didn't have the folder data issue with 4.3.1. So the workaround is only required by users with smart lists.

Would you like a database that has NO SmartLists and v4.3.1 still finds the FolderData corrupted and installs NO ListFolders or Lists? I previously sent my DB when v4.3.0.1 was posted and this problem still persists.
  • Yes please. I thought we had fixed the beta issue. So either we thought we did and didn't or it's a brand new issue. I know if we can work with your database, we'll work with anything :)

As you know by now, I never really stop trying to figure this stuff out. As I noted, I removed all SmartLists from my database in v4.2.4 and made a Backup. I installed a clean/empty (no database) v4.3.1. I then Restored the v4.2.4 Backup. When v4.3.1 started it gave me the error message and opened with no FolderData. I closed BaseCamp and opened it again (v4.3.1). When it opened it had applied the correct FolderData.

But, if I do a clean install of v4.3.1 and once opened I point it to use the v4.2.4 (no-SmartLists) Database, v4.3.1 does not apply any FolderData no matter how many times I open/close BaseCamp.

I note that, as of 3rd June 2014, garmin has released version 4.3.3 of Basecamp for Mac.
    - they have jumped straight from 4.3.1 to 4.3.3
    - there is no mention that the latest update addresses the problems with the 4.3.1 update

As someone who has the data list file problems with 4.3.1 and had to recover my 4.2.4 version and associated databases using APple Time Machine, I am loathe to run this latest update until it is reported that the problem has actually been fixed
  • BaseCamp 4.3.3 does fix the migration issues that existed in 4.3.1.
  • The autoupdate process will update BaseCamp to 4.3.3, but we want first time users to install 4.3.1 first, so that's what's on the web site.

That sounds a bit odd to me. Why couldn't a first time user use 4.3.3?

Also what about Mac App Store users? It won't allow this 4.3.1 first and then 4.3.3 upgrade scheme so you have to make 4.3.3 available for first time users as well or not at all. So which is it?

What autoupdate process? I have 4.3.1 installed (which indeed autoupdated from 4.2.something) but I have no indication whatsoever that 4.3.3 is out. Other than a search on Google where I found 4.3.3 on http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Business/Garmin-BaseCamp.shtml. So it seems as if the autoupdate process once again is broken (there was a problem some versions ago, a year or so).
I have OS X 10.9.3 and other updates work, however not Basecamp.
    .....
Well, now I have made a backup of my 4.2.4 data and downloaded BaseCampforMac_433.dmg which I found on mac.softpedia.com. Installation went fine, BUT all my data was once again in one folder only named "Unlisted Data". So: Problem NOT solved in 4.3.3!
In 4.3.3 I restored the 4.2.4 data file but the result is the same crap, all data in "Unlisted Data". When I install 4.2.4 again, all my data are correct in my own data structure. So, dear Garmin developers, please make an effort to do it right with version 4.3.4 or whatever name!
