Straight line when making routes?

Hi!

I'm using Basecamp 4.2.4 on a Macbook. When I'm planning a hike I usually use the route tool because it's more convenient. However, I often find that small errors on the maps (e.g. 2 parts of a track that aren't combined on the map, but are IRL) leads to route calculations that are all out of wack! I solve this by switching to the track tool, draw a straight line, make a new route and combine the routes and the tracks at the end.

It would be great if you could disable the automatic route calculation momentarily within the route tool, and not having to stitch together routes and tracks in order to plan a hike. Does anybody know if this feature exists?

Thanks in advance!

  • Create your route, placing vias before and after the gap you want to direct route over. When done creating the route, open the route in the Route Properties (cmd-I), click on the point before the gap and change the travel method to Direct by clicking on the icon on the right side of the line. Now that leg should go directly to the point on the other side of the gap. Hope that helps.

That's it! Thanks a lot :) The last thing that would be great was if you're able to change between e.g. hiking and direct while making the route? Does it have a keyboard shortcut perhaps. Thanks again!
  • There isn't a keyboard shortcut, but if you have the dialog up while you are editing you can do the same switch in real-time. I just tested that and it works.
