Feature Request: Moving Data

Please consider de-linking the "move data" option so it does not affect both data in a list and the actual route displayed on the map. To be precise, you're not really moving data when you drag a route to a new option, you're adding a via. Having to use the option key to do this is counter intuitive to all of us older "MapSource users".

Thanks

Being a Mac user, I appreciate the use of the alt/option key for multiple operations depending upon the data being operated on (e.g, Move Data between Lists and Add Via Point to Route). I'd rather not have BaseCamp look or operate like Windows-MapSource did.
  • The trouble is it's not consistent. The "alt" option works to move data or to drag a route and create a via when that preference is checked. De-selectoing the option in preferences results in a single click and drag function on a route, as expected, but then there's no option to move data from list to list. It must be copied and than deleted in the original list.

Now I might have my Macs (all five of them) set weird, but on my machines the default is click and drag to move, alt/option click and drag, to copy. :)
  • As you can tell this becomes a personal preference thing pretty fast, and sadly we can't add a preference for every behavior. Two changes I want to make is 1) make the preference wording more clear that it affects the map behavior and 2) when moving in the list the + icon shouldn't be showing. I know that doesn't solve your issue though. I suspect the main issue is you switch back and forth between BaseCamp and MapSource, which I can understand how that would become confusing.
  • I probably wasn't as clear as I would have liked. Having the option/alt method available via preferences, to move data is fine. It's just that it isn't an option, it's the only way to move data and it works reverse of the (what I understand to be) Mac convention is.. Click and drag to move, option click/drag to copy to. Or am I missing something? Once you de-select the option, you loose the ability to move data. And yes, I prefer the one click to drag a route method that's MapSource like, and I do understand the personal preferences thing. :o

    Thanks for the response.
