Trip Planner

It is obvious much planning has gone into the development of Trip planner. It is a very useful addition to BaseCamp. There is one major missing feature in my opinion. We need a floating window containing waypoints to use when creation trips. I either have to exit trip planner, go to my collection, to verify the name of a waypoint or take screen shots of the sections of My Collection.

Find User Data when in TripPlanner will find waypoints and even show them on the map.

Yes but unless I am missing something, I have to remember the exact spelling of the waypoints starting characters. Mac users like to drag stuff. If the coding time was not prohibitive, I think the a floating window of waypoints would be a great addition that would be used by many. I think the sole purpose should be a list of waypoints organized by folders and list for creating routes. My Collection and Trip Planner need to remain a panel because of interaction with the map. A floating window with waypoints to be used for drag and drop with Trip Planner, the New Route Drag and Drop Assistant and editing existing routes should make the coding much easier.

I really appreciate the planning and thought given to new features. The easy out is just adding stuff as requested but with the complexity of routing its very very hard to keep the program usable for all but the die hard planners. Heck, I enjoy planning the trip so much, I may sell my RV and take virtual tours with all the pictures and video on the web. Just kidding. I realize the beta has more pressing issues than floating windows that need to be fixed first.

Update: I was missing something, after posting, I read azdrmn post again and realized I had never used the main search with trip planner. The main search options makes it much easier to find waypoints by selecting user data option. Thanks for the tip. I still think a drag from waypoint list would be a welcome addition for the future, anyone else agree?

Find User Data is working well with trip planner, you can even drag a waypoint to the trip window. Other than a smart list is there a way to search for Waypoint icons? Will we be able to search for categories in the further? The more options for Address and Street intersection is a great feature. I am thinking if user data searched for categories and if user data had a more options with the ability to narrow the search to categories, Name, Comments, symbols, etc. it would be very useful. A tip for readers the Location that defaults to Center of Screen you get when you expand your search option by clicking the binoculars or searching is a popup as you type for cities. This feature is extremely useful if you don't know the spelling of a city.

There is no way to filter by icon other than smart lists, but you should be able to duplicate some form of it with clever use of find when selecting that list. Find by category text will be in the 4.3 release. Thanks for the feedback.
