Categories - new feature for latest BaseCamp

Can someone tell me the purpose of the new categories feature in BaseCamp? I can't seem to query or sort by a category. I am guessing it must be device specific. When I upload waypoints to the Nuvi 3597 LMTHD, the waypoints are arranged by list names. I use a waypoint called Home in most of my lists. When I upload for example a list called indian creek, all the other list that contain Home or any other waypoint that appears in another list are uploaded to the Nuvi. When I tap saved on the nuvi I see a list of the BaseCamp list that contains the uploaded waypoints. For example if the indian creek list contained Home and Indian Creek CG, I would see a list of BaseCamp lists that contained Home or Indian Creek. I am very pleased with the way the Nuvi 3597 handles the upload. Is there an advantage to categories, will the Nuvi 3597 even recognize categories?

Automotive (and some other I think) models support waypoint/favorite categories. A "category" is simply a group name for two or more waypoints/favorites.

How many favorites categories can be created on an automotive device?

How do I add, edit, or delete a waypoint category on my nuvi, LIVE, dezl, Camper/RV, or zumo device?

Now in the previous PC versions of BC (and I assume the Mac) categories were converted to BC lists. That is no longer the case. Now categories work as they do in the PC program MapSource--that is they're an attribute of waypoints/favorites.

Yes one cannot display waypoints/favorites in a category (as is possible in MapSouce) but I suspect that is coming.

OK thank for the info. I would hope the search feature will query the categories soon, I would think categories should be added to Type of search. It would be nice if categories were added to the detail info list window.
