Oregon 600 - won't connect to Base Camp

Until recently my Oregon 600 was connecting and syncing OK to BaseCamp.
Last night the batteries went flat whilst connected so I replaced them whilst still connected (not too bright a move I admit)
Anyhow now when I connect the device it switches on, goes through a startup procedure, saves waypoints etc and then switches off.
I cannot get it to connect to Base camp now.

Any ideas on how to remedy this.

I did have a similar issue when trying to connect it to a PC but I now only use it on my Mac.

You properly corrupted one of the files while replacing the battery's
Try a master reset, keep in mind that it will erase everything on your Oregon.

To perform the master reset:

If needed, power the device off
Press and hold User key
Press and hold Power key (while continuing to hold User key)
When device powers on, release Power key
When the message Do you really want to erase all user data? appears, release User key
Touch 'Erase'

The Oregon is now reset. It may be necessary to leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.
