Rookie here.. stumped after 7 hours of research

Hello Garmin Fans,

I have been a loyal Garmin user since Christmas of 2006. The last seven hours have been one of the most intense learning experiences of my life, being I'm not a tech person by ANY means, and I believe I'm ready for community help, and very much appreciate it guys and gals.

Before tonight, I have never even so much as attempted to plug in a garmin to a PC for an update, let alone my current MacBook Pro, now with Garmin BaseCamp and Garmin Upgrader. I've learned so much, and I hope I've learned correctly. If not, please show me the way.. :D

I can NOT get the Garmin Nuvi 50LM (my newest gps) to connect with Garmin BaseCamp, or with Garmin Updated to update the system as it says it has no room for updates.... :(

Please help.. I'm so close with what I can do myself....pretty please with sprinkles on top...

Questions: 1. how do I connect the nuvi 50 lm?

So in short, I have units 1, 2, and 3 connected with basecamp, and even have a master combined list of "favorites" which transferred back to unit 3, but unit 4 is my big issue with basecamp and web updater. Thank you..

also:

2. why do the older units save "favorites" as flags as shown on basecamp and the newer units save them as black dots?

3. How do I print out a list of all the "favorites" that would show the name of the saved favorite location, and address, etc??? hopefully through basecamp?

it blew out after a few weeks!!!!! perhaps the battery was a dud from the start?. Been stored since. Hoping to work with Garmin direct to resolve this in good faith and get us on our feet so I can continue to be a happy loyal ambassador of Garmin. I was able to back up the info via Garmin Basecamp, which I'm assuming has become the modern alternative instead of merging .gpx files?

If space is an issue on your 50 you'll need to install a micro sd card.

Garmin continually change how favourites/saved places are displayed, so there's little you can do about that except get used to specific devices and how they work.

I think the only way to print a list of favourites would be to swap map and data views, then use (in Windows anyway, does the mac have something similar?) the Windows/mac equivalent 'snip tool'.

If its showing then check how much free space you have? If very little try deleting some files to free up space, eg vehicle, help, EULA files.

Also try deleting GarminDevice.xml and then reboot the nuvi abduction try again. That file if corrupted will give the symptoms you describe.

To swap views click on the double arrow on the vertical divider between the map and data panes. Mac may differ.

There is no feature for switching of Data and Map panes in Mac-BC. The easiest way to Print a List of Waypoints (Favorites) is to export your Waypoints to a CSV file format and then open the file with a spreadsheet. Then you can delete what information you don't want and print the rest.

This has been one of my biggest frustrations since the first port of BaseCamp to Windows OS. In todays "Online App" world where everyone sees the same Use Case,I can see absolutely no reason for such major differences. Oh sure there are OS specific functions but those are minor compared to Tools, Data Attributes, Window Layout, etc. :confused:

My nuvi 50 is now found through BaseCamp after i downloaded the Garmin Express App, now all four units worth of locations, six years of weddings and mitzvah venues are backed up...

and i have a numbers file that opened the .CSV thank you!!!.. thank you!!

**update** it appears fine, however who knows until its on the road..

You can check it's OK by running it in simulation mode.
