Newbie needs help!

I just got my BMW Navigator V - had a 2610 some time ago and the Navigator V is a different beast. With the 2610 I could access maps on my PC and make up routes at my leisure but with the Navigator V there are no maps to look at on my Mac (v10.9.1) and do the same as I did with the 2610. I have downloaded WebUpdater and Garmin Express but no idea what to do next, as nothing happens when i launch either App!

Also, the clock on my Navigator V does not display the current time automatically - when it should be showing UK time. For example its now 13:20 and the clock (on auto) says 6:11 !!!

You don't select the map by highlighting the map below the GPS, which may explain your problem. On the Windows version there is a drop down box in the toolbar and you select the map in that, I'm sure someone can advise you what to do on a mac. If you haven't selected the map then Basecamp will only be using the basemap, which won't allow postcode or any other detailed searching.

The Mac version works the same way -- a dropdown in the toolbar lets you select "Global map" or the other version(s) available on your Mac and/or in your GPS (when connected).

To access the Europe NTU map in Basecamp without the GPS connected, use Garmin Map Update to download the map again, only this time check the box under Advanced options to install it on your Mac.

Supposedly Garmin Express for Mac will accomplish the same thing, but it has messed up too many times for me to recommend it. To be fair, I have not tried the latest version.

Well my Basecamp finds Kidlington. You might want to ensure you've selected cities in the 'type' box, rather than addresses. Note that for a reason I cannot fathom cities appear as a subset of POIs :confused:

In that case I'm out of ideas, other than an uninstall then reinstall of Basecamp, as given what you've posted it should work, as I said mine certainly does. Maybe the mac version won't search a map on a GPS, but I'm unable to check that

With the Windows version of BaseCamp search data for maps on both the PC and device are kept in

CardProductCache
ProductDataCache

These caches are used for "finds". Thus if they're not up-to-date searches will fail.

I assume the Mac version does something similar. Exactly what it does I don't know.

However, I reloaded it a few moments ago and now it searches fine!!

Well it can take quite a while to read, via the Garmin slow USB interface, an entire map product from a device and create the find/search cache(s) either on a PC or Mac.

Older versions of Windows BaseCamp actually showed a message stating that finds may not work until the caching process completed. This message was removed in later versions.
