Too many points?

Then any route that you intend to use with it needs to have less than 50 waypoints.

The Montana might be different but my 76CSx can have 250 waypoints in point-to-point routes (no routing data in maps) but only 50 in autoroutes (maps containing routing data).

I'm not familiar with the Montana, but on my zumo I've found that imported tracks can be problematic.

Assuming as sussamb says that you are using a routable map, I would import a track into BC then create a new route by "tracing" the path of the track and putting in only enough waypoints to control and define your preferred path. Send that route to your GPS and see if it behaves.

The problem is that BaseCamp creates a waypoint for every trackpoint when converting, and most trackpoints are redundant for route creation. Dan's workaround above gets around this problem. Another way is to use the track filter in the properties window of the track (or a copy if you want to preserve the granularity of the original).

Some more info in answer to the points raised.
I am using a routable map. In fact I have City Navigator and also GB Discoverer. The problem I have is using either map.
The Montana's maps are in Basecamp by dint of the Montana being connected. I must have it connected to see the maps on my Mac.

I create a GPX track on BikeHikeUK and can send it directly to my Montana's GPX folder, and Montana will show the track on its map as a pink line to follow. This is simple and straightforward.

The same GPX track can be imported into Basecamp and a route with turn-by-turn directions can be created by using the original GPX track.
The window in Basecamp shows all the turn-by-turn directions along with loadsa waypoints after it has calculated it.
I can transfer this to Montana ............... and it won't play ball as there are too many points.

If - on the other hand - I create the self-same route on Basecamp from scratch, it still gives the turn-by-turn directions but without all the loadsa waypoints. This can be transferred to Montana and it does play ball! ;)

Now, it seems I have two options.
1. Just leave things as they are and only have a pink line to follow on the map.
2. Re-do ALL my routes from scratch in Basecamp to get turn-by-turn directions.

I really really do not want to re-do all the routes. :mad:

The filter process works as per my screenshot above. I've used it quite a lot to create routes from tracks.

I've not found that window yet, but I'll look.

I've managed to get one GPX track successfully converted to turn-by-turn, by tracing the track as per the suggestion from Danham.
That actually works ok, but it tedious.

I'll get back after I've found the filter.

Just to clarify what I said earlier ...

If you want auto routing you need less than 50 points in the route, if not and you use the 'direct route' method you can have up to 250 points.

Basecamp doesn't know what device you're using so just because things work in Basecamp is no indication it will work on your Montana.

Also the GB discoverer maps are not routeable, just the underlying City Navigator maps.

Double click the track to bring up the properties window and click on the gear (Advanced). The select "Filter"

Just to clarify what I said earlier ...

And to clarify what I said the 50/250 point limits applies to waypoints. My 76CSx allows literally thousands of via's/shaping points to exist in routes (of any type).

I believe BaseCamp allows points in routes to be edited so they're "shaping points". Doing that, tedious as it is, should get one under the 50/250 limit.

A nice feature request for BaseCamp would be to have the track to route conversion use "shaping points" for all except the start and end points.
