Nuvi 3590 and Basecamp

Is is possible to upload waypoints (favorites) to a nuvi 3950 with basecamp? I've been trying for the last two days with one of three results:
(1) Nuvi says "no data available" when I try to get the saved waypoint list, no waypoints uploaded.
(2) Nuvi is no longer able to boot past "loading maps" until I do a device reset/erase all user data.
(3) Some but never all waypoints are uploaded. Multiple redundant lists (with the same name) are created on the nuvi.

For now I think I'm just going to do a another reset/erase so I have at least a minimally functional nuvi, but any suggestions wold be appreciated. I have the most recent versions of basecamp and the nuvi software. I'm sure I haven't had this problem in the past, maybe the newest nuvi update unintentionally disabled the ability to upload waypoints?
  • Basecamp can certainly send data to your nuvi. You should be able to drag and drop waypoints or right click them and select Send to.

The right click send to method is what I've been using, and at least currently it doesn't work. There's one waypoint in particular that I was finding would not transfer, even if I selected only that waypoint. I was finally able to copy over a small number of waypoints (maybe 10-12) including that one by using copy & paste to the nuvi. I'm not sure why right click and copy-paste behave differently but currently they do.
  • I'm not sure exactly how it works on your nuvi but Basecamp normally transfers data using a file named temp.gpx which it places in the Nuvi's GPX folder. If you send a set of waypoints then another the second may overwrite the first. Either send them all at once then disconnect and boot your nuvi, or at least disconnect it and boot it any time you send data to it.

I started to wonder about overwriting but I found that even if I only sent a single waypoint it didn't always appear on the nuvi. And sometimes the nuvi won't even boot after a transfer -- that's what happened yesterday, I loaded the waypoints, we got in the car for a 180 mile trip, and the nuvi couldn't get past "loading maps" -- we let it try for about an hour before we switched to using a smartphone. I was disconnecting and booting it after each transfer to see if what I'd tried to transfer had worked, and I was able to reproduce all the outcomes I originally listed a few times each. Interestingly some times when the nuvi would boot but said there were no waypoints, when I plugged it back into Basecamp the waypoints would show up in Basecamp. If I had to guess I'd say the right click - send to method is writing a waypoints file that the nuvi can't read -- that would explain the no waypoints and possibly the can't boot outcomes. I'm not sure if it explains the only partial transfer outcome, but maybe.
  • Sounds like there may be an issue with your nuvi. I'd try a master reset and see if that resolves it.
