I am about to quit!! I have been trying for the past two days to make this work. Every time I connect my Nav V to my Mac and open Basecamp, it begins to read the gps but then it is ejected generating several error messages. I follow some instructions that suggested removing the GPX files would fix the issue, but still I receive 3 error communication messages.

/Volumes/GARMIN/gpx/Current.gpx
/Volumes/GARMIN/gpx/CurrentTrackLog.gpx
/Volumes/GARMIN/gpx/Position.gpx

I am running base camp 4.2.4 on OS X 10.9.1

Advice on how to make it work will be appreciated. Thanks
  • What does the error message say (besides the file names)?

When you removed the gpx files, did you empty the trash prior to ejecting the GPS?

Do you have an SD card in your GPS? If so, try removing it first.

I have a NAV5 and connect to BaseCamp with no problem. Having said that, BaseCamp v4.2.4 on Mavericks (10.9.1) has given me many data connection and data export errors and crashes.

Can we assume your NAV5 is at v2.50? If so, here is what I would do. I would start the NAV5 and save your current location, giving it a name. Then I would create a Trip, doesn't need to be long--just current location to your nearest Gas Station. Then, making sure BaseCamp is NOT running, I would connect the NAV5 to your Mac and when the volume is mounted I would open it in Finder. Select the Current.GPX file and copy it to your desktop. Rename the file to myCurrent.gpx and then properly eject the NAV5 form your Mac and disconnect it.

Now open BaseCamp and import the myCurrent.gpx file you saved to you desktop. How did it do?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. There is one other thing you can do to test the NAV5. If you have a USB Thumb Drive or an SDCard, you can create a virtual NAV5 on it by doing the following: Create a folder at the root level named Garmin. Then with the NAV5 connected to your Mac, open the internal storage Garmin folder on the NAV5 and locate the GarminDevice.xml file. Copy that file to the /Garmin/ folder on the SDCard/thumb-drive. You now have a virtual NAV5. Disconnect your NAV5 from the Mac and open BaseCamp. Let us know who it goes.

Do you have Garmin Express installed? If so, when you connect your NAV5, does GE see it OK?

Okay. If it still is having problems I would do the following: Since you have backed up your Current.gpx and CurrentTrackLog.gpx file, I would connect the NAV5 to your Mac and open the Garmin volume in Finder. Go to the Garmin/GPX folder and delete the Current.gpx, CurrentTrackLog.gpx and Position, gpx files. Make sure to empty the Trash after you delete the files. Now, open BaseCamp. ????

Well, glad we know it's not your NAV5. It would appear to me as though you solved the problem that was in the installation of v4.2.4. BaseCamp v4.3 will be out soon I think so you should be able to install that without issue. Actually, I think you've fixed the issue already and could install v4.2.4 since it can't be a systemic BC problem or all NAV5 users would have the issue. But, I certainly understand you reluctance to mess with it further.
