deleting waypoint does not change route

I imported a Tyre To Travel file into BaseCamp, which originally came from Google Maps. As you would expect, once you do a "recalculate" on the new route, there are a couple extra "loops" in the route that you want to get rid of before sending the file to the GPS. This is normally done by deleting a waypoint or two near the loop. However, when I delete one of the waypoints with the little flag symbol, such as waypoint 203, this is what happens. First, it starts recalculating, which is good. As it is recalculating, it seems to correctly redraw the magenta route line without the loop, which is also good. However, as soon as the recalculation finishes, the loop in the route comes back just as before, which is not good. The waypoint 203 is deleted from the complete list of waypoints on the left side of the screen, which is good. However, in the main map section of the screen, sometimes waypoint 203 remains with it's little flag symbol, and sometimes both the waypoint and the flag symbol are deleted, and sometimes the flag is deleted but the waypoint is given the new name 2031. The bottom line is that the software is not redrawing the route to remove the loop, no matter how many waypoints are deleted. I am using BaseCamp version 4.2.5 on a Windows7 64 bit laptop. The map is a City Navigator North America NT 2014.3 which is being used on a Nuvi 2555 GPS.

  • Sorry, you've lost me slightly as the waypoint in your jpg is 921? Either way it looks like a map error taking you off I264. Have you tried putting a waypoint on the overpass to get rid of the loop?
  • Coupla thoughts. BTW, you posted this to the Macintosh BC section, though it's true your question applies to either platform.

In my experience, loops like this are caused by waypoints or vias (which is what your number 92 looks like -- did you drag the route?) too close to an on- or off-ramp. I find some Garmin maps define portions of the Interstate as "belonging" to the off-ramp. Conversely, some portions of secondary roads get "owned" by on-ramps. Both can cause problems. Deleting may or may not work, depending on what order you do it in and other factors that are hard to predict. Instead, SUSSAMB's advice of moving it is the best approach.

Also, it gets labeled 921 because for some reason BC believes you already have a 92 and it appends a 1 to avoid erasing the original 92. This is among the reasons that numbering waypoints instead if naming them with letters can cause confusion.

Check your Unlisted Data folder, you'll probably find 92 in there. Dan's advice is good, I didn't look that carefully but as Dan says your 921 looks like it could be on the 'on ramp' which is why you're getting the 'loop'.
