Importing kmz from Google Earth and other sources

I'm encountering difficulty importing a kmz (or a kml) file from either Google Earth, or the data that I originally loaded into Google Earth. Both result in "not a valid KMZ file" note from Base Camp (version 4.2.4 on Mac 10.6.8). KML file is 4.2MB, KMZ is 475KB is there a size limit for Base Camp? Or some other reason why this won't import?

  • It's quite large, but the size shouldn't be a problem. I expect it has something to do with the contents (or the way it is formatted), but that's hard to tell without knowing what it contains. Could you place it somewhere online so that I can take a look?
  • When I save the subfolders of "AMC-BERK Trail Section" to separate kmz files, BaseCamp loads them fine... Maybe it is a size problem.

JaVaWa RTWtool can convert the kmz file to a gpx file that BaseCamp loads without problems.
RTWtool doesn't support polygons in kml/kmz yet; the next version will. Because my version already does, I converted it to a gpx for you. You can download it here: http://we.tl/wAsWarAjHL
