Thanks. Tried reproducing your error by importing it into Basecamp then closing/opening it over 10 times ... but can't duplicate your error. Which Basecamp version are you using?
To be clear, the map loads up fine and operates perfectly, but after the first execution of Basecamp subsequent executions of the program fail to render the map. As others have described I just get the outline of the overlay, no maps themselves. This is on Mac Mavericks 10.9.1
No response yet, should I raise a ticket officially with Garmin support or will they see this eventually? Perhaps Hijacking a thread wasn't a good idea ;)

It works fine for me as well on Mac BaseCamp 4.2.4. Try renaming the kmz and reimporting. If that doesn't work, you may need to contact customer support, because there seems to be something unique occurring on your computer. Sorry for the inconvenience.
