Hey. I looked to see if there was a post that covers this but... I couldn't find one.

I have been unable to properly connect my Montana 650 to either my Macbook or iMac. I have downloaded the communicator plugin and base camp but no matter what I do I can't get the GPS talking with the computer / or even showing up in finder.

Please help!!!!

Thanks all :)

  • Have you tried the obvious - a different USB cable? If so, try the following:
    • On the Montana, select Setup, System, Interface, choose Garmin Serial. Back out to the Main Menu and try connecting your USB cable. If this doesn't work. Do a Master Reset to the Montana: Power Off, touch and hold the upper lefthand corner of the display and power on. Wait for the question and answer YES. Try connecting your Montana to the Mac. If it doesn't work...
    • On the Montana, select Setup, System, Interface, choose Garmin Spanner. Back out to the Main Menu and try connecting your USB cable. This time you will be presented with a question, answer YES. If it doesn't connect to your Mac, Call Garmin Tech Support.

By the way, there is no Garmin Montana thread at Garmin Forum's.
  • On the Mac try Applications -> Utilities -> System Information
On the left side of the window under Hardware find USB and select. Then look to the right to see if the Mac sees the Garmin at all. If it does then there is an issue on the Mac. If not then the issue is probably with USB cable or the Garmin.
