Basecamp creates ID.TXT file on every USB memory

Hi all.
Does anybody know the reason for wich Basecamp (i.e. ver.4.2.3) creates a file named ID.TXT for each thye USB memories connected to the computer? One ID.TXT is written inside the Device (Dakota) itself but other ID.TXT are written into each USB memory connected to the PC.
The ID.TXT files have only one row that sounds like this: 6317c119-9fbf-451e-9a1f-3e14b5e82b13

I've been seeing those files lately...Google lead me here! Been wondering where they came from.

My WAG is that Basecamp uses that as a unique identifier for the drive device if for no other reason than that these are removable devices. I have seen a similar scheme in use on my linux systems on all their drives. They serve to identify the disks even if they are moved around on the controllers.

This is to help us keep track of cached data from the card, so we don't have to reread the whole card every time it is connected.
