active routing in base camp for mac?

hi,

searched the web for information and instruction video's on youtube and garmin on how to search in bc for mac with a active routing topo map for the bike routes to show them in a list / map and to make your own route via these routes.

I see videos on a bc version in windows, but the screen on a mac is a different and i seem not te be able to search and find, any help,tips, links or pictures from you ?
  • While we are waiting for the experts to get up an answer, you might want to reply with the map name you are trying to use. Can you see the bike routes you want to search for on the map when you scroll the map to a bike route?
  • I am using the belux topo map from Garmin on SD card and read the sd card in base camp. when I select different profiles, (i.e. hiking, tour biking or mountain biking) i noticed that the screen and roads change -- the active part of the map, but I cannot search (better, i don't know how to search) for mtb routes for example and select and get these highlighted in the map, or find existing bike paths .

    Edit, and yes, if I just browse or scroll and zoom into in detail I see sometimes mtb- etc plotted and named when I click the red line.
  • I'm not sure you can do that. I don't have any experience with that map but the GB topo map isn't routeable except on normal roads.
  • sure, the new belux topo is advertised as being able to and i see video instructions on the web how to do it on a windows bc install... I just would like to learn how to do it in a mac environment with base camp. how can i search and find all the bike routes in the netherland, or belgium for example, that's my question.
  • such as the example in this video, in dutch though, but you can see what they do after 1 minute 30 seconds;

  • That looks like the German map to me?

    But in any case if the routes are on the map you should be able to do the same on the belux one, but only for the trails that the map will route on. Topo maps do not provide routing for every trail/track shown on the map.

    Have you tried a similar procedure to that shown on the video, and what would be normal for most map products. Select two waypoints, create a route then adjust the profiles, add additional waypoints etc to suit what you're trying to achieve?

    Incidentally if the problem is simply seeing them on the map this might help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVBw1mLVn_k
  • I solved this one. Searching for pathnames is not supported for this product (SD card map) on BC for Mac DOWNLOADED from the App Store.

    I downloaded the version directly from Garmin and it solved my issue that I could not find any nearby cycling path's, routes from scratch.

    Don't understand why there are different versions and why this kind of information is not documented.

    I can't tell you why it isn't documented but the reason there are two different versions of Mac BC is because of Apple Inc. Any thing sold in the App Store pays royalties to Apple if you provide a function or feature that has links back to your "selling" website. Or, in App purchase features. Apple also requires the developer to use the "Sandbox" Dev platform and that makes it very hard/costly for Garmin to provide some features. I'm sure the Dev Team can put it more precisely but I think that's the net of it.
  • Active Routing is a feature of certain maps; it has nothing to do with links to websites or in app purchases. The sandbox is the problem here; this restricts access to certain files on your computer that are needed for Active Routing.
