I’d like to make a few modest suggestions for small improvements to make Basecamp a little bit easier to use:
Converting routes to tracks
The Edit menu includes an option to convert a track to route, but not to convert a route to track. I tend to work out how to use software by looking at the menu options - and for a long time I thought there was no way to convert a route to a track until I stumbled upon the option in the context menu. i think it would be really helpful to include this in the main Edit menu.
Pressing Cmd-W instead of Ctrl-W
Would it be possible to include an ‘Are you sure?’ dialogue to stop people inadvertently exiting the program by pressing Cmd-W instead of Ctrl-W.
Sorting names
in the list of place waypoint (etc) names Basecamp puts capital letters before lower case letters eg ‘Zanzibar’ would appear before ‘angola’. This means that if you say have a long list of place names and you mistype one so that it starts with a lower case letter it disappears to the bottom of the list. I don’t know any other piece of software that sorts like this, and it can be confusing if you aren’t expecting it (and confusing if your are!).
Duplicate names
if you enter a duplicate name in a waypoint or trackfile the text entry box closes and you have to click on the file and start again - would it be possible for the dialogue to remain open so you can more quickly and easily amend the duplicate name to something else?
Toolbar show-hide toggle
I like the look of the new-style tool bar - but it still takes up space and most of the time I don’t need it. Would it be possible to bring back the show/hide toggle? EDIT - just spotted that there is a menu item and keyboard shortcut for hiding the toolbar.
