Following help, I double click the waypoint listed under library/devices/internal storage and a window pops up with wpts' info. I can highlight info to change or introduce the cursor, but when I type or backspace, nothing happens. I've even tried cut and paste but it still doesn't change. I've uploaded basecamp 4.2.4 I have a nuvi50.
Sounds like you are trying to edit a waypoint on a GPS device. Seems like most of Garmin's devices will allow read and write only and do not allow editing or deleting from BaseCamp. Try dragging the waypoint to BC My Collection, make the edits and moving back to the GPS. You will have to delete the old waypoint directly from the device.
Basecamp cannot delete or edit anything on a nuvi, only on handheld etc. Its the way nuvis work. So as stated copy the data into BC, make the changes and send it back.
After you've verified the new data appears on your nuvi connect your nuvi to your PC and delete the temp.gpx file that BC sends to your nuvi.
Personally unless I'm changing a lot of data I find it easier to simply edit on the nuvi itself.
