Well, I just updated my BaseCamp to v4.2.4. Surprised I don't see any mention of it here.

Yes, updated my Win-BC two days ago but why no notice HERE? It is available if you aren't using the Mac App Store version.
  • Looks like a maintenance update.

Changes made from version 4.2.3 to 4.2.4:
Fixed crash that occurred when connection certain devices
Fixed crash that occurred when doing a find on user data
Fixed error when deleting the last track point in a track
Fixed 'Arrive Continue' guidance issue on zumo 660
Fixed address search issue when running in languages other than English
Fixed user data from FIT files not being read from the Edge 800
Fixed error when removing user data from a list or list folder
Fixed error when selecting a track to create an Adventure from
  • Not much change unless you're a Zumo 660 user. The arrive/continue issue was a real annoyance for some.

Just wondered why I was the one putting the update notice in the Mac-BC Forum and not the Dev Team....no big deal - they're busy I'm sure.

But, I do get the feeling that Mac-BC is getting less attention or fewer dev-dollers. It irritates me that there continues to be functional disparity between the two applications; I'm not talking about UI or OS dependent function either. For example, why does Win-BC have Track edit features that Mac-BC does not?

The, wait for the customer to ask for it, mentality in Product Development is a sure indicator of a lack of market awareness and product vision. The dev team knows there are a lot more users out there than the small handful that contribute to this fora and those folks are looking at this product and wondering why Garmin is ignoring obvious features. They don't do that very long though before they move on to another solution -- that's the market place today. Today, Brand Loyalty is generated by product innovation. Stop innovating and customers move on.

Sorry, I should have labeled that rhetorical.

As was stated this is a small maintenance release. I assure you that Mac BC is getting at least as much attention as the Windows version. We are working toward a 4.3 release that should be released early Q1. As for track editing, all of that has been or will be added to the map context menus as opposed to as more tools.

Sorry for the rant. You guys know by now that I'm not a fan of dual Apps. None the less, thank you for the v4.3 feedback. I look forward to v4.3.

4.2.4 doesn't launch with the errors I was getting on 4.2.3.

BaseCamp still doesn't read/write GPS when the Mac is running from a case sensitive filesystem. MacOS is a Unix system and Unix is supposed to have case sensitive filesystems. Real Unix utilities and source code doesn't behave correctly if it can't tell the difference between MAKEFILE and Makefile and makefile. I expect it would take longer to set up a Mac with case sensitive filesystem than to actually fix this issue.

The Mac version of Garmin Express (which works fine with case sensitive filesystem) has no means of downloading map to Mac if the attached GPS is large enough to hold the complete map set. Nuvi 765LMT for example. Can only select the option to download map into BaseCamp if my 1490LMT is attached.

We'll look into the case sensitive issue for 4.3, but ironically App Store sandboxing makes it difficult to stay fixed.

As for Express, there should now be an option on every update that allows you to download both to the computer and the device. It looks like there is no "download just to your computer" option though.
