How to Move Updated Maps from BMW Navigator V to Mac Basecamp V4.2.3

I just purchased a BMW/GARMIN Navigator V GPS. This device includes Lifetime Maps from Garmin. I just updated the maps in the device to CN North America NT 2014.20 ALL & 3D. How do I update the maps in Garmin BaseCamp to be the same? The maps in BaseCamp at CN North America NT 2013.1. When I plug in my Navigator, the maps show up in the "Maps" menu item in BaseCamp, but I can't figure out how to get them to be resident in BaseCamp on a permanent basis.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

What process did you use to update the maps on the Nav-V?
  • How did you update the maps on your Navigator V GPS?

You can't simply move the maps ... if you installed them using MapUpdater or Express you need to use those programs to install the maps onto your mac.

Edit: Seems Dan beat me to it :)
  • Run express again, It sees your maps are already up to date, chose to install again, in the second last step u get "installation options" chose that and thick the "only install on PC" now the map is installed on your PC, and you don't need to hookup your Zumo to work with the map.

see it's a Mac, don't know Mac's and think the link will not work.....
  • Friends:

Thanks for the help. I always use the Garmin Express application to update my maps on the GPS (the NAV V and other units I own). I will try the "install only on PC" approach and see if that updates the maps in BaseCamp.

One other quick question. Is there a way to REMOVE the outdated maps in BaseCamp? I found a folder on my computer that has many files related to BaseCamp enclosed, but before I started tossing stuff, I wanted to make sure I trash the right files.

Again, thank you for your help!

    Best,

    Peter
  • On Windows you can remove them through Control Panel, not too sure about on a mac. However you could use JaVaWa's GMTK program ... http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html
  • SUSSAMB:

Thanks! Downloaded the JaVaWa GMTK program. That's a no brainer! Great suggestion.

Have a great day and thanks again!

    Cheers,

  • Just for clarity, here's the recommended process from Garmin support received yesterday. This worked perfectly and my maps are now on my Mac. The JaVaWa GMTK program was excellent (and super easy) to aid in removing the old maps on my computer:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I will be happy to assist you with the installation of your maps to your Mac, thus allowing you to use the Basecamp program without needing to have your device connected to the computer.

The Express program you are using is great for updating maps, but once you have installed the complete version of maps onto your device, it is difficult to make use of this program to also get your maps onto the computer.

For this reason we are going to go a slightly different route. Please click on this link ( http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.dmg ) to download a program called Garmin Map Updater. Once you have this downloaded and installed, plug your device into the computer and run the Map Updater program.

Proceed through the program slowly, ensuring you look for a screen that says "Ready to update your map." There will be an Advance button in the middle of the screen. Press this Advance button, and you will be given an option as to where you want your maps downloaded. Select My Mac and click Continue. The next screen may ask you to identify the area of North America that you would like to install. Of course you will select Full Coverage (or North America & Canada), then click continue.

The download will then begin. The Garmin Device is plugged in as a Key to verify, and allow the download, please leave it plugged in for this operation. Once completed, eject your device from the computer. open up Basecamp, and your 2014.20 maps should now be found on your computer.

    Best regards,

    Peter
  • Amazing that even Garmin plug MapUpdater in preference to Express, even though Express does give the option (now, early versions didn't) to install maps to your PC (but maybe not still on the mac?).

I just found the same condition as described by the OP's response from Garmin Tech Support. If you are using Garmin Express, you must make sure to select the option to install on BOTH your computer and GPS. If you only install on the GPS, GE does not give you the option to go back and install/update JUST the computer. Hopefully this will get fixed SOOOOON!
