BaseCamp, Nuvi 3579 LMTHD, and JaVaWa Device Manager

I have been using a Nuvi 3579 for several months and I am impressed. BaseCamp routes are not recalculated and the 3579 follows the uploaded route. A selectable side panel shows up coming food, gas, etc. alone the route with distance or view more importation about you route and without loosing your view of the map. Lane assist, touch screen, and route calculation are improved. The is a Garmin iPhone app the lets me search the internet for a POI and send it via blue tooth to the 3579.

My only complaint is the file management system (Finder on the Mac). It sucks just as bad as the Nuvi 1490 LTM. I have to follow the steps below to delete data from the 3579. BC can't delete any previously entered data, unlike my Dakota for which I and use BC to delete geo data.

JaVaWa Device Manager helps with the Trash step but unless I am missing something, there is no way to remove geo data without deleting from the unit and mounting the 3579 and deleting the GPX files.

Can someone help me understand the filing system one the 3579. I was so sure it would be like the Dakota, I did not even check before buying. I am guessing geo data is mixed or stored in a large or hidden file and the unit will not allow or communicate enough to allow a PC application to manage the data. I think the GPX files are backup files.

To delete geo data on the 3597,

Deleting Trips/Routes :
GPS disconnected
Touch App
Touch the Trip
Touch the 3 bars upper left corner
Touch Delete Trip
Touch Yes

Deleting waypoints:
GPS disconnected
Touch Where To
Touch Saved
Touch the 3 bars upper left corner
Touch Select All or pick and choose
Touch Delete

Deleting History/Tracks
Touch Settings
Touch Device
Touch Clear Travel History
Touch Yes

Connect GPS to Mac with BaseCamp not running.
Open GPX folder
Drag GPX content to trash
Empty Trash

Current.gpx is as you suggest simply a one way copy of what the nuvi stores in inaccessible memory. This is why Basecamp can delete files on handhelds but not on the nuvi range. Its a limitation of the nuvi and not Basecamp.

I am almost positive I can delete trips on the 3579 and they reappear when the unit is mounted in BC. Is this not a firmware bug if the unit does not delete something you tells to delete. I would not think Garmin would have a trash can on the GPS but who knows.

If these are trips you've sent to your GPS as a gpx file then to stop them reappearing you also need to delete the gpx file on your nuvi.

If it works like the zumo 350 you also need to delete the .trp files; You can find (and delete) them with JaVaWa Device Manager (click "More about this device").

How are these .trp files created? Not by Basecamp, I assume, so it must be the Zumo? If so isn't there a way to delete them off the Zumo directly on the GPS? Seems nonsense if not :mad:

Someone needs to create LSD trip and get a LSD.trp file :p Could be a good trip or a bad trip :D

The zumo imports the routes from the GPX files, and stores them in those TRP files. You can delete the routes in the TRP files directly on the zumo, but the GPX files will be untouched; causing them to be imported again next time.
I guess it works the same on the nüvi 3597.

That makes sense, so it is then the gpx file then that needs to be deleted.

If these are trips you've sent to your GPS as a gpx file then to stop them reappearing you also need to delete the gpx file on your nuvi.

Yes sent from BaseCamp, The steps listed above including deleting GPX file, (I delete temp too) are required to remove all geo data from the 3579.
