How can I use the same waypoint in different trips without getting sequential names. i.e. York, York1,York2, etc. ???? I've deleted multiples but can't find the original...Been at this over a week..Thanks for any help
  • To find the "original", look in My Collection. If you don't find it there, it isn't in BC. Just re-create it. If it is there but isn't in any lists you expected it to be in, check the Unlisted Data folder.

One way to avoid getting sequential items is to not import routes and/or waypoints from external files like gdb's created in MapSource. The same point in multiple imports will be sequentialized since BC doesn't know they are the same.

Also, don't execute a "duplicate" on a waypoint, that will also sequentialize. If you duplicate a route within BC, it will ask if you want to duplicate the waypoints in the route. Make sure to answer that "no", since answering it "yes" will again sequentialize such duplicated points.

To use the same point, simply copy a point and paste it into another list, or do a "send to" on the point to get it there. The same point will exist in however many lists you want. The "reference" tab in the properties window for a point will tell you which lists and routes a point is in. If you copy a route to another list via copy/paste or "send to", that list will contain the route and any waypoints in it. If you want to have a route the same as an existing one but slightly different, then duplicate the original route first then revise the duplicate so the original remains unchanged.

The key is to remember that none of the lists contain the "actual" point, but only "pointers" to that point, or "shortcuts" in microsoft speak. (Edit -- oops, sorry, forgot I was answering a Mac post...) So these shortcuts can exist in any lists and be used any number of times.

Remember that with this strategy, if you adjust the location of a waypoint, it will recalculate all the routes that use that point, which is basically what you want if the point is now more accurately located.

Hope this helps, let us know if I've misunderstood your question.

THANK YOU! ....I was close but broke the "NO" duplicate rule. Mt Rushmore doesn't move so as a waypoint it is permanent. thanks again. Fred
  • No problem, glad I could help. There are many others on this forum more knowledgeable than I, so I'm sure any other issues that crop up as you get used to using BC can be answered here.
