I upgraded and noticed that routing in Garmin Basecamp between 2 waypoints is just a straight line -- I use the Benelux topo map from Garmin and have selected this map in BC --
If it's not routing when you don't have direct routing selected then either you don't have a routeable map or you have a corrupted one or maybe a bad install of Basecamp.
yes, switched between several profiles,changed some profile settings, etc -- same straight lines. also used several waypoints, but unfortunately it does not calculate routes for me any more
I'm out of ideas then, but my guess is that you have an incomplete/corrupt Basecamp install, since you say the map routed OK before. You could confirm that by installing another routeable map and trying routes with that.
I am a bit cautious here to install all kind of maps.. What I have is CN benelux+france on SD -- once loaded in BC it does not route -- I have also part of Austria (just as topo benelux from CD, transferred to the device) and neither the SD map or the local BC map is routing...
Can i just install BC over again? Is it wise to back up my maps or anything or is that not needed?
Probably. The Mac and Windows releases seem to occur within a week or so of each other.
You won't get a specific release date from Garmin (or anyone here).
PS: I don't know if the Mac version has the same bug fixes as the Windows one. When I posted yesterday about trying 4.2.2 I mistakenly thought you were using Windows.

hmpf brief update; noticed that routing between shorter distance between waypoints does work (smaller than the original route) for example, see picture; right side has been routed on the topo maps, but the left not. for this to happen, I have inserted an extra waypoint halfway.
not in any way as it used to work in the version before. hope it helps the developers.
