Hi,

I've backed up my maps from a microSD card on to my Mac, but am I allowed to use that copy with BaseCamp, rather than having to connect my device to the computer to read them, please?

Thank you.
  • IF you are running Mt. Lion or Lion, you will have to go to the finder, hold down the option key and select library to see your library folder. Once you get the library folder form you home directors (could be root but probable not) you should select Application Support, Garmin, and Maps. Put you map in the Maps folder. You must register the map, I have LifeTime maps on a Nuvi 1490 and I select UnLock Maps online from the Maps menu in BaseCamp. I have to plug the Garmin Nuvi to unlock the map online.
  • Copying the map from a SD card to that folder is definitely not going to work. What does work is to create an image from the SD card with Disk Utility, and activate that image before using BaseCamp. No need to unlock maps.

What I did was copy the Garmin folder (it contains the map image) from the Garmin Card to a new card.
    Then I started Basecamp.
Then I put that card into a usb card reader and plugged in the card reader.
Basecamp found the card and went thru some long 4-5 minute process reading the card and setting up the map.
After that I could quickly access the map anytime the card reader was plugged in.
The only problem was that I could not print any maps from the map on the card.
