4.2.1 gray icons

I'm not weary of saying it again and again:

Not everything apple does is good and has to be copied.
Gray toolbar icons?? Gray route icons??

Dark gray on light gray background is NOT easy to perceive.

Dull is NOT the new cool.

What's next? Gray list icons? Gray waypoint icons? An e-ink-based gray-on-gray GPS device??
  • Add my vote for bringing back some color, especially in the toolbar. While you're in there, the tool icons are tiny and the new design means no room for labels, so you have to to hover to see what the tools and "assistants" do. Waste of time.

    Thanks,

Agree with the above...bring back some color and just a little bit larger Icon's ( small and large).

Yes, some colour would be great!
  • On the subject of tool bars... Please make sure every toolbar function is available from the menu bar or via a keyboard shortcut. I don't use the toolbar unless forced to and then I have to hide it again.
  • For the most part I think it goes without saying, if you don't like the new MacOS style, we're not the company you should be complaining to. We waiting for over a year to make sure Apple wouldn't change their mind again, but alas boring is the new cool. There are some advantages to the smaller icons, namely you can get more of them on the toolbar.

As far as not needing the toolbar, that's a bit of a problem for find. It helps to learn Alt-cmnd-T to toggle the toolbar on and off.

Cmd F along with the map specific context menu works fine for find. If I had a similar way to change activities, the toolbar could remain hidden forever. The screen real estate on an 11" MacBook Air is precious.

Well, you don't *have* to follow apple here. AFAIK there is no rule to "make all icons gray".

It's not a complaint but a strong opinion and I thought it might be helpful if you could tell your boss "See: customers don't like it either. Instead of appreciating all the new functions we've built, they're distracted by design stuff." ;-)

I fully agree with these statements and have always wondered why more and more companies seem to follow 'Apple dictates' blindly without giving a thought to what their customers would really like.

I suppose another option could be to make them user-configurable, perhaps? Maybe incorporate themes?
